Free Audio Bible MP3 Downloads

If one wants to listen to audio of the Bible being read online there are several sites to choose from.  However, if one wants to download MP3 audio of the Bible for free... there are far fewer options.  Downloading MP3 files are preferable in many instances such as having the flexibility to add the audio to an iPod (or other MP3 player), creating custom CDs, and so forth.

Searching for truly free MP3 audio Bible downloads can be time consuming and frustrating because many of the search results refer to sites that are selling products or host online listening (streaming) only.  Other sites are free but have other problems such as incomplete collections, missing files or bad links, etc.

Below is a list of the best audio Bible MP3 download sites on the web.  There are a few other sites not included in this list because the collections are incomplete or the downloads are merely duplicated from or link back to the original/source sites.  If you know of other good sources not listed, please comment on this post with the link!

Here are the best audio Bible MP3 download sites...

Firefighters for Christ - (FFC) This site appears to be the first to offer free MP3 downloads of the Bible online.  This is the King James Version (KJV), non-dramatized with background music.  Possibly the best free MP3 version available.  Most of the other sites that offer free KJV downloads have simply copied them from this site.  Users can download the entire Bible in one zipped file containing multiple MP3s organized into books and chapters.  Alternatively, zipped files of the New Testament (NT) only, Old Testament (OT) only, and each separate book in the OT and NT are available.

Audio Treasure - This site offers the MP3 audio for the World English Bible (WEB) - a public domain modern English translation.  The WEB downloads are non-dramatized with no background music.  Each book of the Bible can be downloaded separately as a zipped file containing a separate MP3 file for each chapter.  This site also serves as a mirror for the KJV from FFC.

Divine Revelations - This site offers the English Standard Version (ESV) of the NT only - non-dramatized with background music.  It also serves as a mirror for both the KJV and WEB versions from the above links.  Each book of the Bible can be downloaded separately as a zipped file containing a separate MP3 file for each chapter.

NET Bible - This site hosts online Bible study software featuring the New English Translation (NET).  Every NT chapter includes an audio link for downloadable MP3 files.  The audio is dramatized (single narrator) with no background music.  The bad news is that one must navigate to a different page in order to download the MP3 for each chapter - and there is no OT MP3 audio available.

The Audio Bible - This site offers another KJV reading from a different narrator provided by One Place.  This is a non-dramatized, no background music version.  Unfortunately, each chapter of each book of the Bible must be downloaded separately.

mp3bible.ca - This site offers yet another KJV reading from yet another narrator.  This is also a non-dramatized, no background music version.  This version is read at a bit slower pace.  Each book of the Bible can be downloaded separately as a zipped file containing a separate MP3 file for each chapter.

Jesus Christ Saves Ministries - This site offers the New International Version (NIV) as downloadable MP3s.  The bad news (although some may prefer it) is that each file contains an entire book (as opposed to each chapter of each book having its own file).  The audio is non-dramatized with no background music.  The site also has the FFC version of the KJV - although each file contains an entire book.

You should really check out Faith Comes By Hearing at www.FaithComesByHearing.com. This ministry has the Audio Bible for download or live streaming in more than 400 languages. It's word for word, dramatized Scripture with music and sound effects. It's really well done. Did I mention it is free?

Thanks for the comment, Jon. I agree, www.FaithComesByHearing.com is a good resource. It is different than the other sites I listed in that it requires one to download a proprietary bit-torrent application in order to download the MP3 files. It also limits the user 2 downloads unless they agree to be an "Ambassador" which involves enabling the app to host Bible MP3 files from their computer for others to download. They also only have New Testament MP3 files available. I didn't include it for these reasons.

I did try it, however. I think it is a neat idea. I understand the need to have hosts for the bit-torrent-like app. The entire NT on MP3 is nearly 600 MB... making it very difficult to host for free download. This reduces costs... but also limits who will be trusting enough to download it.

One last bit of info... simply uninstalling and reinstalling the downloader will allow one to continue to download as many versions as they like... even past the 2 download limit.

They encourage people to download and share the MP3s... but they create the limit to encourage people to be Ambassadors to help disseminate the files. Again, a great idea... but a lot of people won't go for it when they see you have do download and install an app to get the files.

Thanks for the solid list of MP3 Bible Resources. I'm actually making a free WP8 Bible app and was trying to find some public domain MP3's to add audio to the app.

Thanks and God Bless
